Where: Arcadia, North Studio
How Much: $150
To participate you have to have an intermediate to advanced level in at least one other vertical apparatus. You have to be able to do at least 3 pull ups and leg lifts and invert to straddle with straight arms.
In this class we will research the possibilities of what you can do with a bunch of little ropes hanging vertically. We will work on techniques that are inspired by vertical rope, straps, silks and handstand. Partly we will work on vocabulary that Saar developed, but we will also work on creating your own material in the ropes.
Saar started doing circus when she was 5 years old at Circus Elleboog, a youth circus in Amsterdam. When she was 18 she traveled around New Zealand for half a year and ended up with a circus family, which made her decide to audition for a circus school. She studied at the Academy for Circus and Performance Art in Tilburg, the Netherlands from which she graduated in 2012 specialized in triple cloud swing and vertical dance. Since that she has participated in a documentary about contemporary circus, “Grazing the Sky” by Horacio Alcala. She taught and performed at aerial dance festivals in Ireland, France, the UK, Costa Rica, Houston TX and Dallas TX. Last year she has been working as a rigger, stage manager and performer with the Acrobatic Conundrum for their shows “Love and Gravity”, “Volume 5” and “Fig Tree Walzes”.
