Let Go: Drops on Dance Trapeze

$120.00

Drop lovers unite! We will take advantage of the closed circuit of the single-point trapeze, borrowing from the world of sling/hammock for several setups, and liberally adapting several fabric drops to the domain of dance trapeze. We will work on dives moving both forward and backward (and stacked drops combining the two), as well as a couple slack-drop style setups and one side rotation (open star) if time allows. Unusual setups and rotations included in this downward journey!

Student Prerequisites:
Students should be comfortable with drops of all types on sling/hammock or fabric, and preferably have done some kinds of drops on trapeze. Proficiency with wrapping the ropes of a trapeze around the body and inverting in trapeze ropes is key.
Apparatus:
Dance Trapeze

Instructor:
April Skelton

April Skelton is an aerialist, educator, and dance trapeze evangelist based in Colorado. She is the Education Director at Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance in Boulder. April has been working in aerial arts since 2005, after beginning her own training at Canopy Studio in Athens, Ga., under the direction of Susan Murphy. Out of that community of Southern artists, April adopted and helped develop the particular dialect of dance trapeze she speaks most fluently: a merging of vertical skills borrowed from aerial fabric and sling with the dynamic precision of static trapeze. She is honored to teach and perform at the inaugural Seattle Aerial Dance Festival.
